The
firm of Pampaloni was established in 1902 when Ermindo Pampaloni
started his career in a shop on the Ponte Vecchio. The current
members of the family have not just continued, but always tried
to progress, in the difficult and exhausting art of silver working.
Pampaloni
is situated in an austere medieval palace in the centre of Florence.
For the traditional silver products, they still use the old
techniques. In contrast, highly modern techniques are used for
the production of the contemporary collections. However, the
typical deposit of silver dust makes it look as if time has
stood still.
The work carried out by the craftsmen at their benches enables
the great Florentine tradition of fine silverwork to live on
today. All the different stages of the work; the melting, the
rolling, the chiselling, the assembling and the finishing are
carried out inside the factory. The expert silversmiths do not
just limit themselves to a work of assembly but often are responsible
for the construction of complex pieces, moulding and modelling
the silver sheets with burners.
The
32,000 moulds and models, which go back to the beginning of
this century, are carefully conserved and in current use. Today
modern die-casting is used with high technology materials for
the production of contemporary objects, side by side with the
old boxwood moulds.

The
way in which Pampaloni combines the ancient silvermakers's art
with modern technology reflects in the wide range of objects
available. Candelabra and candle sticks, cruet sets, bowls and
photograph frames, to mention just a few, range from traditional
style to innovative contemporary design.
In
other countries Pampaloni have their own shops where discerning
customers can view and purchase the outstanding creations. This
experience has convinced them that the way the products are
displayed is vital in creating consumer interest. Customers
respond very positively to seeing each piece in the context
of a broad range of Pampaloni objects. Pampaloni are going to
build on their experience in the retail sector in this country.
Retailers will find that their sales are enhanced by setting
up concessions, boutiques or special Pampaloni 'corners' where
customers can get the true 'feel' of the brand.
